Our
story begins in 1983 when Creative DJs founder Chris Michaels
started collecting records as a teenager. After a family move
from Arcadia, CA to Ellicott City, MD, a neighbor who learned of his
large record collection and aspiration to be a DJ, asked him to spin at a neighborhood
block party. The response was incredible and Chris was asked to play at
two more events. Creative Deejays was born!
Every great business has a plan and Chris' was to PROVIDE THE VERY BEST IN DISC JOCKEY ENTERTAINMENT, STATE OF THE ART SOUND AND LIGHTING AND EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE. In 1985, Compact Discs were the hot new thing and Chris immediately started his collection. A year later, at the age of 16, he acquired more than 350 CDs, 3 CD players and a Full professional sound system with a light show.
During high school, Chris landed a
gig spinning the public skating sessions at the Columbia Ice Rink.
With exposure to over 800 teens every Friday and Saturday night,
dances soon followed at virtually every middle and
high school in Howard County, MD. The popularity of Creative
DJs exploded and three DJs were added to accommodate event
requests.
By 1993 Creative DJs was in full operation boasting more than 500 events per year, an office in Ellicott City and a growth spurt that made them second largest DJ service in the Baltimore area.
It is also worth mentioning that Creative DJs was
the first mobile DJ 
company in the Baltimore area to be 100% compact
DIsc, a rarity in the DJ industry at the time. In fact, to this day,
the company has never performed at an event using records or tapes.

By 1999, Creative had grown to 15 sound systems performing 1,100 events per year in MD, DC and VA. We were (and still are) the ONLY Baltimore area DJ service to be fully self contained, meaning that we handled everything in-house without sub contractors.
Today, Creative DJs operates in 34 counties, 4 states and have 3 office locations in CA, MD and TX! Chris returned to California to operate our Inland Empire (CA) office and amazingly, some of the same DJs associated with Creative DJs at the beginning are still working with Creative DJs today. Others are in Radio or have started their own respected DJ services. (click here to see our spin offs)

rating in all locations.
